What is Hypnotherapy ? – Can you think about a time when you drove to a place and when you reached your destination, you could not remember driving there? Can you think about a time when you have drifted-off into a daydream? How do you think these scenarios may have happened?

I can explain, there are two levels of thinking, the subconscious and the conscious. The subconscious mind seeks to protect you and to make your day-to-day decisions in life. For example, the subconscious mind will learn a pattern of behavior such as driving by repetition and think about it – even life supporting behaviors such as breathing. Sometimes the subconscious mind becomes confused and whereas our conscious mind thinks that all is OK, the subconscious mind goes into protection mode. Think of somebody who may be afraid of spiders, their conscious mind will say “You are much bigger than them, they are afraid of you”, but your subconscious mind increases their breathing and engages a feeling of panic.

Hypnosis creates relaxation in the body and mind to allow communication with both the conscious and subconscious. This then allows behaviors, ideas and notions, to be observed and then developed in a new direction if required. By interacting with the subconscious mind, great changes can be made to be found that would not necessarily be optional on a conscious level only.
