Hypnotherapy for Anxiety has proven to have a profound effect on treatment for anxiety. It can change those thought processes of anxiety and panic and develop new beneficial ways of thinking and feeling.
The use of Hypnosis for Anxiety can help change those feelings that grow and accumulate of which most people try to deal with by pure self determination. Everyday we can come across and experience situations that can cause us feelings of anxiety and unease.
Anxiety can make you feel overwhelmed and even frightened in many ways, but in the wonderful reality, little changes can help you feel better almost instantly. ?
Wouldn’t you want to learn how to do this?
You can address the underlying beliefs in the subconscious mind causing the anxiety within hypnosis. Consequently, you can then un-substantiate those beliefs, which will then cease the feelings of anxiety.
Then you can apply new positive understandings, therefore, changing the original thought process. With the new positive thoughts come positive feelings!!
Types Of Anxiety
There are many types of anxiety of which several have similar symptoms. Some of the most common are:
Panic Disorder
Panic Disorder is a serious condition that around 1 out of every 5 people might experience.
People with this condition have feelings of terror that strike suddenly and repeatedly with no warning. Other symptoms of a panic attack include palpitations, chest pain, sweating, and a feeling of choking. This may make the person feel like he or she is having a heart attack.
Generalised Anxiety Disorder
This disorder involves unrealistic worry that reoccurs even if there is little or nothing to provoke the anxiety.
Social Anxiety Disorder ( Social Phobia)
This involves the person being overwhelmed and self-conscious about everyday social situations. The person often worries about being judged by others and feeling embarrassed and ridiculed.
Common scenarios include:
- Speaking in front of other people
- Attending parties
- Being in meetings
- Being the centre of attention
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
This disorder causes disturbing thoughts called compulsions and often result in the person feeling like they have to perform certain rituals or routines.
Common scenarios include:
- Repetitive hand washing / cleaning
- Checking things i.e. doors, oven and locks
- Doing things in a particular order
- Things being done for a certain amount of times or for an odd or even number
Performance Anxiety
This is a fear to perform under pressure and attain results.
Common scenarios include:
- Public speaking
- Sporting performance
- Being on stage
- Exams and test
Travel Anxiety
This is a common anxiety and encompasses both travel in and out of a persons’ control.
Common scenarios are:
- Fear of flying
- Fear of motorways or busy roads
- Travel on public transport i.e. train, bus or underground
- Fear of traffic congestion
- Fear of heights i.e. bridges or mountain roads
Toilet Anxiety
A common fear where someone believes they may not make it to the toilet in time, be seen, or be embarrassed in front of others.
Common scenarios include:
- Fear of using a public toilet
- Afraid of not making it to a toilet whilst travelling
- Avoiding busy, public places where a toilet may not be accessed quickly
- Avoiding new places where it is unknown if a toilet is available
Anxiety is a result of an imbalance of the brain chemicals serotonin and noradrenaline, which are involved in the control and regulation of mood.
Psychological and Physical Effects of Anxiety
Psychological effects can be restlessness, a sense of dread, being on edge, difficulty concentrating, or irritability.
Physical effects can be dizziness, tiredness, insomnia, palpitations, muscle tension, trembling and shaking. Anxiety can also cause a dry mouth, excessive sweating, shortness of breath, stomach ache, feeling sick, headaches and pins and needles.
The physical affects can also increase the anxiety psychologically to cause a panic attack.
Anxiety in Children
Just as adults suffer from anxiety, children and adolescents do so too. Even though as an adult you can reason to a certain extent on a conscious level that how you are feeling is irrational, to a child the feeling is real.
Hypnotherapy, CBT and NLP can help the mind to problem solve and think in a way that will support an outcome that the individual desires rather than a scenario steeped in anxiety. For example, a child may worry about going to school which can incur a stomach ache or feeling of sickness. By investigating the reasons that could be the cause i.e. what if I have nobody to play with? or what if someone makes fun of me? a plan can then be made.
A Plan For Anxiety
The plan utilises techniques that encourage a positive outcome in the mind. For example, the child imagines scenarios that will encourage other children to play with them. Most importantly, this then promotes feeling of excitement and confidence …. not anxiety!!!.
Anxiety Management with Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy is proven to be very successful in changing the patterns of behaviour which, therefore, change the feelings of anxiety. More often than not we will respond to certain situations from past behaviour, just think what a habit is, and this is done without conscious thinking.
Additionally, with anxiety comes feelings and physical reactions which can increase and compound with the thought of the cause. For example, when someone thinks of something that would normally cause anxiety i.e. meeting someone new, with the thought comes feelings of a butterfly stomach, heart pounding and sweating. Hypnotherapy helps you to attach positive feelings to thoughts so you can react in a different way and bypass those feelings of anxiety.
As a hypnotherapist I can help you explore the reasons, feelings and beliefs behind your behaviours and create a new successful path forward away from anxiety and stress.
I will also help you learn additional conscious self-help techniques such as self-hypnosis, breathing techniques and anchors. These can be used life long in many different situations.
